Omaha Rules

Omaha poker is played with 52 card deck with between 2 and 10 players. Like Texas Holdem poker, Omaha is a community card poker variation. Unlike Texas Holdem, the Omaha player is dealt 4 hole cards and he or she can form the best possible five card poker hand out of 2 of their 4 hole cards and 3 community cards placed on the table.

According to Omaha rules, the two players to the dealers left put blind bets, small blind and big blind, respectively. The dealer deals each player four face down cards, known as hole cards. The player to the left of the big blind opens the first betting round by calling, raising or folding.

After the first betting round is done, the dealer deals three face up cards and places them in the middle of the table. These cards are known as community card and this stage of the game is called the flop. The flop is followed by a second betting round, starting with the immediate player to the dealers left who has to either check of bet.

After the second betting round, the dealer deals a fourth community card, also known as fourth street or the turn. Another betting round begins and then the dealer places the fifth and final community card in the middle of the table, called fifth street or the river. After the river, the last betting round begins, followed by the showdown, in which all the remaining players reveal their five card poker hand.

According to Omaha rules, each player must use two of his or her four hole cards and three of the five community cards. In Omaha high, the best poker hand wins the pot. If it is Omaha high-low game, the pot is divided between the player with the highest hand and the player with the lowest hand. Omaha rules are the same whether you play Omaha online or in a casino card room. If you play Omaha home poker game, you can invent as many Omaha rules as you want.
