Seven Card Stud Variations: The Queen, Six Card Stud, Countdown, Sixty Four

Popular New Versions of Stud Poker:

Here, you will be able to read detailed descriptions of some popular and new variations of stud poker for playing at home or online. Enjoy!

The Queen

The Queen is played like seven card stud, but the Queen of Spades has a special function in this game. If the Queen of Spades is dealt face-up, the game is immediately re-dealt with the old pot remaining and everybody at the table re-anteing into it. If the Queen of Spades is dealt face-down it has a different function: it serves as a wild card in the hand of this player. If the Queen of Spades is not dealt during the game, the game is played absolutely identically to Seven Card Stud.

Six Card Stud

Six Card Stud can be played differently. It mostly is a standard stud game, like seven card stud, for example, but played with six cards. These cards can be dealt in different order. Three most popular dealing schemes for Six Card Stud are: 1 down, 5 up; 1 down, 4 up, 1 down and 2 down, 4 up.

Countdown

Countdown is a Seven Card Stud game with a wild hand determined in original manner. The wild card in Countdown is a card that corresponds to the number of players that remain at the table until the showdown. If three players, for example, survive all betting rounds, including the final one, threes are wild. So, players first receive all their cards and play all betting round and only then find out what the wild card is. In any case, it can not be very high. With six players at the table it obviously can not be higher than six, and most probably will be lower.

Sixty Four

Sixty Four is a Six Card Stud game. The cards are dealt 1 down, 4 up, 1 down. A betting round follows every face-up card like in seven card stud. Sixty Four is played in High/Low format, which means that the player with the highest hand at the table and the player with the lowest one split the pot in the end of the game. Players do not declare whether they go High or Low, but Cards Speak rule applies. Sixty Four involves two qualifiers. A high hand must consist a Pair or better, and a low hand must be 9-high or lower. If nobody qualifies to one of the halves, the winner of the other half wins the entire pot. If nobody qualifies to both halves, the pot is split between all players left in the game.
